Shameless Self Promotion | Enviro Chi Chi

Filed under: Shameless Self Promotion — cheryl @ 3:39 pm July 19, 2010

It’s no secret that I’m a sucker for vintage and thrift clothes.  This relatively-new addiction of mine has been growing by the day, fueled by the fabulous pieces that I have picked up  – like the brand new Dooney & Bourke tote that I snagged for $4.99 and the brand new Via Spiga heels that I took home for $14.99, never worn and with the  $200.00 price tag still attached!  Epic shopping win.

Earlier this month I launched Enviro Chi Chi, a blog dedicated to environmentally-sustainable fashion.  If you aren’t into thrift but are interested in minimizing your  eco impact, you’ll find plenty of useful information on this blog.  It features profiles on “green” fashion designers, bloggers, as well as photographs of my sustainable fashion finds.

Check it out when you get a chance.

Burlington 2010 Relay For Life

Filed under: Personal Log, Shameless Self Promotion — cheryl @ 9:56 am June 15, 2010

It’s nice to be able to see a project through from start to finish.

On Friday I attended the Burlington Relay For Life.  The night was a huge success – the weather held up, all the events went off without a hitch, and we managed to raise a mind boggling $410,000.00 that will go directly to cancer research.

Click here  to see my Burlington pictures.  I’ll be attending Milton’s big ‘do this Friday … here’s hoping it will be every bit as successful!

Shame on me for neglecting this blog!

I have an excuse, though.  I’ve been busy!

I recently started doing social media work for the Canadian Cancer Society’s Relay for Life (Halton Region).  I’ve set up a blog, a Facebook fan page and a Twitter account.

The Halton Relay For Life Events website  is still very much a work in progress.  Right now there are some kinks in the formatting and the Twitter feed in the sidebar seems to have up and disappeared.  Hopefully, I’ll have all the problems fixed in the coming days.

Anyway, have a look when you get a moment.  I welcome your comments/suggestions!

I’m thrilled to have a guest post running at The Glass Hammer, an online community for female executives.

In my article, The Great Divide: Study Reveals a Growing Disconnect Between Employers and Employees, I discuss the current apocalyptic sentiment that is swirling through corporate America.

Finally!

My website is up and running! Click on the icon above to view it or you can access the site from the handy “Website” tab at the top of this blog. When you’re on the site, I strongly advise that you refrain from clicking on “View Source” as this will reveal the MESSIEST CODE EVER!!

If designing a website has taught me one thing, it’s that I’m a very bad coder.

Like, horrible.

Oh, well.  I’d appreciate your feedback, though. I’m still trying to work out the kinks and any broken links/formatting errors are in the process of being fixed.

Cheers!

September Happenings and Other Things …

Filed under: Shameless Self Promotion — cheryl @ 5:08 pm October 2, 2009

Thanks to all of the lovely people who have signed up for my newsletter!!

Unfortunately September has been a slow month for me, writing-wise.  Right now I’m trying to assemble my own website, to which this blog will be linked.

Phew!

Designing and coding and arranging sure is hard work – even with the help of wonderful programs like Gimp.

I’m sad that writing has taken a bit of a back seat but I’m far too poor to hire someone to design my website for me - such is life, right?

My next newsletter is going to be a Sept./Oct. combo but, in case you were wondering, here’s what I scribbled down in the last 30 days (above and beyond what’s been posted to this blog).

Business-Related:
The Importance of a Company Website [Women on Business - 09/04/09]
Clearing Out the Clutter [Jobacle - 09/14/09]
Three books evey businesswoman should read [Women on Business - 09/26/09]
Writing Tips/Musings
Some of my work has been picked up by the lovely people at Peevishpenman.com! This month, I gave tips on how a freelance writer can protect their work and commented on the ethics of freelance writing.
Music
Here’s my interview with Jan Rosenfeld of Yes Giantess [09/18/09].  While September was a slow month on the music front, I was lucky enough to snag some choice assignments.  Aside from being able to interview a great up-and-coming band, I was able to take in the Moby show at Toronto’s Kool Haus on September 28.

Moby sounds great live. He puts on a very ecclectic show – definitely something there for everyone.

Plus, I was able to get a ton of cool photos, like this one:

Not bad, huh?
Actually, I can’t take credit for this.
Thanks for your great camera work, Wil!  Here’s my full review of the Moby concert [09/29/09].  Go see him the next time he’s in town, ok?
Well, that’s about it.  Not an impressive list I know, but it’s something and that’s better than … ah … nothing?

August is shaping up to be a busy month.

People are People is going to be quiet for the next few days.  I have to tackle a few writing assignments but I promise I’ll be back soon.

Stay tuned for more articles from yours truly and links to some of the other things I’ve been working on.

There are some very exciting changes taking place but when I try to think of everything at once it makes my head hurt.

Thanks for your readership and I’ll be back in a bit!!

June was busy …

Filed under: Shameless Self Promotion — cheryl @ 4:08 pm July 6, 2009

It’s been quiet on the blog front lately, and I apologize for that.  June was a busy month and I’ve been very, very, fortunate.

I love writing and I’m thankful to everyone who’s given me the opportunity to get my work out there.

First off, I’m happy to announce that I’m now a contributing writer for Women on Business. This is an absolutely phenomenal website that features articles and other bits of wisdom from an impressive panel of female entrepreneurs. Going forward, I’ll be contributing to WoB every other Friday. Click here to read my first article.

I’m a feature writer in the Volume 2 Issue 4 – July 2009 issue of Soundline Magazine. Click here, here, and here to read my articles.

My book review for Free From Lies, the latest by famed psychologist Alice Miller, will be published on Feminist Review on July 11 - and I’m still regularly posting to Quietcolor. To view my articles, visit QC and type “cheryl” into the search key.

I’ve set up a mailing list. You can click here to subscribe. I have no idea how to use it yet, but what I plan to do is send out a monthly newsletter that will contain links to everything I’ve worked on as well as some other fun things (recipes? music recommendations? maybe something even cooler???) The first letter will be out sometime around the end of July. It’ll probably be full of coding mistakes and whatnot, but bear with me OK? I’m new to this!!

Your regularly-scheduled blogging will assume shortly … maybe later today? I have a few things I’d like to get off my chest and Chapter 3 of my “Diary of a Freelancer” series will be coming up soon.  In my upcoming installment I’ll be looking at some of the ways freelancers can avoid being taken advantage of.  Sad to say but there are a lot of people out there who associate the term “freelancer” with the term “sucker”.  I seem to be meeting these guys on a regular basis and they keep trying to steal and/or mangle my work!

Grr.

But enough of that for now.  I’m off to put some finishing touches on a couple other  WIPs.

Cheers!

Blast from the Past…

Filed under: Shameless Self Promotion — cheryl @ 6:14 pm April 23, 2009

Oh… how the past comes back to haunt you!

I had a blog back in uni and I totally forgot about it until now.  Today I Googled my SN (Cherrycher) and ta-daaa….

http://cherrycher.blogdrive.com/

Glad to see that it’s been six years and I’m still complaining about the same things.  And writing about the same topics.

I need some new material.

Anyway, I can’t remember the password I used for this blog or the email address I used to sign it up but once I figure that out, I’ll post something on blogdrive for old times sake.
